AISC 360-10 steel frame design at RBS stations

AISC 360-10 steel frame design at RBS stations

Question: How does ETABS perform capacity design per AISC 360-10 for steel beams assigned with Reduced Beam Section (RBS)?

Response: ETABS 2016 RBS capacity design, as explained in greater detail in flowchart below, conforms to the requirement of AISC 341-10 when AISC 360-10 steel frame design code is selected. RBS capacity design is performed for beams assigned with RBS and when all conditions given below are met:

1- Ignore Seismic Code? is “No” in Steel Frame Design Preferences. This is the default option.

2- Perform RBS Capacity Design is “Yes” in steel frame design overwrites. This is the default option.

3- At least one load combination including seismic load case(s) is chosen as a design combination via Design > Steel Frame Design > Select Design Combination

4- For design stations located at either face of column or center of RBS
