The procedure to run pushover analysis in SAP2000 V12 is outlined by the steps listed below.
Create Computer Model
- Create the basic computer model (without the pushover data) in the usual manner.
- Define properties for pushover hinges using Define > Section Properties > Hinge Properties menu command. The program includes several default build-in hinge properties and the user-defined properties are also available.
- Assign the pushover hinges to the frame elements in the model by using Assign > Frame > Hinges menu command.
- Define Load pattern (Define > Load Patterns) that will contain the loads to be applied in the pushover analysis.
Define Nonlinear Static Load Case
- Define static nonlinear load case using Define > Load Cases > Add New Load Case menu command. Load pattern specified in the previous step would be entered as the applied load. The load case can be force controlled, that is, pushed to a certain defined force level, or they can be displacement controlled, this is, pushed to a specific displacement.
- Set Other Parameters > Results Saved to Multiple States, this will enable you to plot various parameters for each increment of the applied load.
Run The Analysis
- Analyze the model using Analyze > Run Analysis menu command.
Review Results
- Display > Show Static Pushover Curve enables you to plot base shear vs. monitored displacement as well as other plots.
- Display > Show Hinge Results enables you to plot the deformation of the hinges vs. the applied loads, such as plastic rotation of the hinge vs. moment.
- Use Display > Show Deformed Shape menu command to review displaced shape and a sequence of hinge formation on a step-by-step basis.
- Review member forces on a step-by-step basis using Display > Show Forces/Stresses > Frames/Cables menu command.
- Use Display > Show Plot Functions to plot various outputs (such as joint displacements, frame member forces) at each step of the pushover analysis.
