How do I resolve 'Run-time error 76, Path not found'?

Extended Question: I am running PERFORM-3D on a 64-bit Windows 7 machine. When I am logged in as the user who installed the program, it works fine, but when logged in as another user, I receive this error. How is this resolved?

Answser: This error occurs because of internal changes made to the default installation-folder locations between versions 4 and 5. Starting with version 5.0.0, several folders have been relocated to accomodate changes to Windows security features.

User-folder locations

For version 4, the default user-folder location is:

  • C:\ProgramFiles\Computers and Structures\PERFORM\PERFORM-3D\User

For version 5, the user-folder location depends on the operating system, typically given as follows:

  • For Windows 7 and Vista:

    C:\Users(UserNameAtInstallation)\My Documents\Computers and Structures\PERFORM
  • For Windows XP:

    C:\Documents and Settings(UserNameAtInstallation)\MyDocuments\Computers and Structures\PERFORM

NOTE: (UserNameAtInstallation) refers to the user logged-in at the time of installation.

Installation procedures

Two options for installation and access are as follows:

Option 1

  • Single account. We recommend arranging a specific user account for PERFORM-3D installation, then using this login to run the software.

Option 2

  • Copy to user settings folders. As an alternative, you may copy the PERFORM-3D folder from the folder of the user logged in at the time of installation to the user settings folder of each additional user on that machine.
