Conventional licensing requires the user to run licensing utilities (specifically echoid.exe or wechoid.exe) on their computer to obtain a locking code used for licensing. This locking code is submitted to the CSI licensing department who will generate license files and email them back to the user. Conventional licensing will be gradually phased out and replaced by web-activated licensing, where the generation of the license file is handled automatically, eliminating the need for users to obtain locking codes and install license files manually.

Conventional licensing can be used to issue both standalone licenses, where CSI software is licensed to run on a specific computer only or network licenses where multiple network-connected computers can share licenses served by a single license server located on the same network.
