When the lane is defined in such a way that it extends beyond the actual structure, the lane loading points on the lane overhangs may still get connected to the elements on the structure via a long structural connection. This is not desirable behavior and you can avoid it as follows:

(1) Shorten the lane (this may not always work for skewed supports)

(2) Define a dummy structure below the overhanging portion of the lane to attract the load from the overhanging portion of the lane. This dummy structure would need to be disconnected from the actual structure.
