Legacy Information
As of V14.0.0, the shell reinforcement design is based on Eurocodes, the content of this page needs to be updated accordingly.
SAP2000 enables to perform design of reinforcement for shell elements based on the following two papers:
- "Optimum Design of Reinforced Concrete Shells and Slabs" by Troels Brondum-Nielsen, Technical University of Denmark, Report NR.R 1974
- "Design of Concrete Slabs for Transverse Shear" by Peter Marti, ACI Structural Journal, March-April 1990
The method is documented in "Concrete Shell Reinforcement Design" technical note which is available from the "Help > Documentation > Technical Notes > Concrete Shell Reinforcement Design" menu.
Setting Shell Design Parameters
If needed, you can modify the default shell design parameters (such as rebar cover) by using "Define > Section Properties > Area Sections" menu command as shown below:
Reviewing Results
After you run the analysis, you can review various design parameters via "Display > Show Forces/Stresses > Shells" menu command by selecting "Concrete Design" component type.
ASt1 is reinforcement in the 1 direction of the shell while ASt2 is reinforcement in the 2 direction of the shell. You can separately display the calculated reinforcement for top or bottom faces of the shell element:
Update shell reinforcement design to reflect that it is done according to Eurocodes since V14.
