Property modifiers may be used as a scale factor to modify the stiffness of section properties for frame, shell, and tendon objects. Property modifiers may be assigned either to object sections or to the objects themselves.

Shear release

A shear release may be applied to a structural member by assigning a sufficiently small property modifier to f12. This modifier could be on the order of 10^-4^ times smaller than the other stiffness properties. It is best to use a small value such that numerical problems do not impede the formulation of a numerical solution.

Shear walls

A shear release may be useful to release certain shear walls from in-plane shearing behavior. To release out-of-plane shear, assign the small property modifier to m22. This should allow walls to function only as bearing walls.
