Panel zones assigned to the joints are part of the model and are primarily used to include the flexibility of the panel zone connection between beam and column in the model. They affect drifts and periods, and may affect the moment distribution. They can be linear or nonlinear. The results for the panel zones are available via "Display > Show Tables > ANALYSIS RESULTS > Element Output > Panel Zone Output " menu command.

Continuity plate requirements are calculated are part of the steel frame design check using the latest American or Canadian codes, when designing a special moment frame for seismic loading. This is part of the code check and does NOT require that panel zones be defined. Please see the design-code documentation under Help > Documentation > Design > Steel Frame Design for more information.
