The *echoid.exe* is a command line utility used to determine the [locking code|kb:Locking code] for a given machine.
{on-this-page}
h1. Usage
The echoid.exe utility is located in the installation directory of any CSI program or in its "License Manager" subdirectory. It can be also downloaded from CSI ftp site via the following link: ftp://ftp.csiberkeley.com/pubdocs/LMTools/echoid.exe
To use the utility, simply run in on the target machine and obtain the locking code by reading its output.
The utility will provide two locking codes as follows:
* Locking code 1, starting with 4- is a Disk ID locking code.
* Locking code 2, starting with 80- is a Computer ID (USB key) locking code.
If you see a 0-0 locking code, it means that the locking code could not be determined. This can occur when the USB key is not plugged in or when the USB key driver has not been installed properly.

h1. Important considerations
* If using this utility for a remote server, you must use a remote desktop session and run the utility _within_ the remote session. Otherwise (if you, for example, run the utility on a network drive) the locking code will be incorrectly obtained for your local machine and not the server.
* On certain Windows systems with [User Account Control (UAC)|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_Account_Control], the utility needs to be run "As Administrator" in order to obtain the correct locking code. The locking code may be different and will not be correct when run as a regular user.
