h2. For how long is the activation key valid?

*ANSWER:* The activation key is valid for the life of the product, the duration for which is specific to the licensed product version and level. Any change to the software version or level will create a new activation key whichthat must be entered to reactivatelicense the new software. The software must be deactivated before it is reactivated, but the activation key is not necessary for deactivation. The activation key is also not necessary to renew the [license|kb:Licensing].

h2. What happens when the license expires after two years?

*ANSWER:* When the [license|kb:Licensing] expires, the software will prompt you to directly obtain a new license by way of internet connection. *ANSWER:* Web-activated licensing will apply to all major {new-tab-link:http://www.csiberkeley.com/}CSI{new-tab-link} products, including [SAP2000|sap2000:home], [CSiBridge|csibridge:home], [ETABS|etabs:Home], and [SAFE|safe:Home], as their subsequent major release becomes available.
