\\ *Generalized displacements* are user-defined displacement measures which are useful for output data and monitoring [nonlinear-static|kb:Nonlinear] analysis. Translational or rotational displacements from one or more [joints|kb:Joint] are scaled and summed to generate generalized-displacement values. For example, story drift may be defined as DRIFTX and measured as the difference in UX displacement between vertically- aligned points on adjacent floors. Average values may also be obtained by scaling x displacements by 1/x.
