[SAP2000|sap2000:home] calculates the section -cut forces by summing the element joint forces from the frame, shell and link members included in the group that defines the  forces which act on member [joints|kb:Joint] within the group of [frame|kb:Frame], [shell|kb:Shell], and [link|kb:Link] objects which define the section cut. TheDuring jointssummation, thatthe areforces consideredand aremoments those at thejoint samelocations locationare astransformed theinto pointequivalent objectsconditions thatat area includedpoint inof the groupsummation. To sum the forces, each considered joint force and moment is transformed to the location that the forces are summed about and then they are transformed toThey are then transformed into the local coordinate system which is specified for the section cut forces. When all of the considered forces have been transformed to the appropriate location and coordinate system they are simply summed up and the total forces are reportedreporting of section-cut forces. Section cuts canmay be defined by group, by cutting plane, or within inthe graphical user interface.
