\\ The XML Template and the Advanced Report Writer are two options available for generating [SAP2000|sap2000:home] output [reports|kb:Reporting]. Both of these options, available through the File menu, are described as follows: h1. XML Template The *XML Template* provides a newer, more straightforward method for generating output reports. h1. Advanced Report Writer The *Advanced Report Writer* is the original, more elaboratepowerful yet powerfulelaborate method for generating output reports. h1. Report Format File The *Report Format File*, which controls the information displayed in individual [report|kb:Reporting] tables, may be attached for both XML-based reports and those created using the Advanced Report Writer. The default format file, *SapDefaultFormatFile.fmt*, may be manually edited, though we recommend editing a copy of the file. This file is available through Options > Database > Edit Format File, and is located in the SAP2000 user-settings folder, typically C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Computers and Structures\.
